TOKYO: The INNOCENT CARVERY

If you have been a loyal reader, you would know that I am a huge fan of beef. I'm the kind who would drive hours out of Adelaide to get to a full blood wagyu farm for dinner ( read here click), purposely make a trip down to a city ( read here click) stuff my face with heaps of wagyu ( read here click) until I feel uncomfortable :/

Nicholas always jokes that my bedtime reading is 1) instagram and 2) Michelin guide
Which is actually very true hahahahaha. ohno, why like that? Other colleagues in my industry are probably reading uptodate, new english journal, medscape for bed time and dreaming of meta-analysis whilst I am scrolling thru instagram partaking in one of the 7 deadly sins - nope it's not gluttony because the food is physically not infront of me, it's Envy. Maybe next time I should start my own clinic and there's going to be 2 consultation types.

  1. Medical consultation
  2. Food consultation
If you choose medical AND food consultation you get discount; the cheaper consultation at half price.

Hmmmm now the thing is.... Which consultation should be priced higher?????

There's this instagram account which I follow and get alot of inspiration from - restaurant_hunter. I'm not sure her background, but one thing is for sure, her food pictures of Japan and occasionally China is amazing. Granted sometimes I look at her description of the restaurant menu and immediately I just phase it out. I mean... As much as I do splurge on food, I can't afford to spend 70,000 yen on a meal !!!!!!

That's like... the cost of my ski jacket..... which I can use for perhaps 2-3 years before I phase it out for newer technology versus a 200mins meal that gets excreted out the next day.....

One of the restaurant restaurant_hunter showcased was The INNOCENT CARVERY, I remember looking at the pictures and then going into their website and then telling Nick " Okay, scrap Yoroniku Ebisu for the next trip, we have to eat at INNOCENT CARVERY this trip "
And you will see why I made this call after all the pictures, I guarantee I have just lured you into committing the same sin as I do every night.

ENVY.

Also if the pictures do not convince you ( even though they speak a thousand words), please visit their website and tell me how can you not be convinced to go when their opening paragraph is

The Innocent Carvery was created with the idea for expert chefs to work together with Wagyu producers to carefully select and gather all the best wagyu from around the country. An exclusive course is available where you can enjoy different carefully selected brands and parts of wagyu so you can compare brands, parts and tastes. The chefs and Wagyu producers were uncompromising about having only the highest quality Wagyu be stocked in the special cellar in the restaurant. Staff grill the meat at your table and cook it to perfection right before you, so you can enjoy each piece of mouth-watering juicy beef. Located in Roppongi, Tokyo a place at the forefront of fashion and trends, give The Innocent Carvery a visit and take yourself on an adventure to Wagyu heaven.

WAGYU WAGYU WAGYU HEAVEN

2 types of menu - a la carte and omakase
3 sets of Omakase: Chef special tasting 16000yen, wagyu tasting 10000yen and basic wagyu 8000yen

It was really strange because they only brought out the ala carte and the wagyu tasting and basic wagyu omakase set for us. I had to specifically ask for the chef special tasting.

10/10 for decor

Our meal started with us choosing our beefs - Have to choose 1 out of 3 ( front row), and 1 out of 4 ( back row) all from different parts of Japan.
How to choose ? I mean they all look awesome. We just asked the service staff to pick one for us

Selected our beef, we went with 1) wagyu from kunamoto and 2) cured wagyu
Now let the CHEF SPECIAL WAGYU SET START :D

Top rump from Tochi with melon from Kumamoto

So you're meant to eat the beef together with the melon

Sirloin and beef fillet

Croquet with uni

春菊Crown daisy soup

with truffle

With edible flowers and caviar

Look how generous they are with the caviar !

All plated up

And the way to eat it is: take a bite of bite with the caviar, then finish it off with bread

aged kimchi with scallop sashimi

wagyu tongue

wagyu tongue on the grill !
aluminium foil the tongue

And it is served. BEST TONGUE I'VE EVER EATEN. It was so soft it was the consistency of a pulled pork. I LOVE it.

kunamoto wagyu marinated with olive oil with a side of truffle waiting to be shaved

 Kunamoto on grill

Kunamoto wagyu served with shaved truffle

Cured beef

Cured wagyu on the grill

2 pictures of this thin wagyu slice for sukiyaki because I love sukiyaki and look at how nicely marbled this wagyu is !!!

Look at how golden the egg yolk is!

cooked wagyu dipped in egg yolk, my God, just the way I like it

Vanilla ice cream in a PAPAYA?!
Oh my gosh, I was so afraid that this will kill my whole meal because I really dislike eating papayas. but this Hawaiian papaya went really well with the ice cream

Shaved ice with black sugar

You may think that this meal is expensive 16000yen, but for the quality of the meat and the service, I say the price is REALLY reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant for a one stop shop of good wagyu.

BTW, the staff here speak really good english. Reservations unfortunately has to be done online. Pro tip: if you book via their japanese website, it is free. However if you book thru their english or chinese website, you have to may a middle man ( JP concierge) to do the booking for you. And they quoted me a booking fee of 9000yen WTF.
can you please just go rob a bank already?!

So I immediately did not go thru with that booking, and navigated my way thru the Japanese website to make the booking and got our apartment concierge to confirm the booking when we arrived.

So yeah, it's really easy to navigate thru the Japanese website yourself if you read mandarin, otherwise I think chrome translate or google translate could help you out :D

OR you could pay me.. 4500yen ( half price la huh) to make that booking for you :D
