KYOTO: Honke Owariya Shijo 御用蕎麦司 本家尾張屋

Located in an atmospheric old wooden building, Honke Owariya is arguably the best, and oldest ( Since 1465! Though they started off as a confectionary shop rather than a soba restaurant) soba restaurant in all of Kyoto.
From my multiple internet scouring, I have been informed that a long queue is to be expected and to decrease your queue time you should be there as early as possible.

We got there half an hour past their opening time and..

Finally after half an hour....

Next in line !

 Extensive menu!
Very patiently waiting for my food!

I had the most expensive dish in the restaurant - Hassun Tsuki Horai Soba ( 3024yen) which comprises of
1) 5 layer Soba with 8 toppings (Shitake mushroom, Thin slices of omelette, sesame seeds, shrimp tempura, wasabi, nori, japanese leeks and grated daikon) with kyoto style hors d'oeuvre

Nicholas had the Soba with tempura by the side 1944yen

Comparing mine and his, it's so obvious who has the more starred dish :p

We finished off the meal with some soba confectionary and traditional Japanese sweets.

Opens everyday 11am -7pm
322, Niomontsukinukecho, Nakagyo-ku Kyoto-shi, Kyoto, 604-0841, Japan
