ADELAIDE: 2nd and 6th

If you have been living in Adelaide for the past few years, you would know that hindley street is slowly getting less red light district-ish especially with new bars and restaurants popping up.

One of my favourite areas around hindley would be Peel Street and recently I have been going back to this particular restaurant along that street.

 

Named after two of the seven deadliest sins - greed and gluttony, 2nd and 6th is a brunch spot, dessert bar and late-night drinkery.

This post is done over 3 separate visits. 

Brunch: 

 

I am a huge egg fan, so nothing makes me more happy than having 2 perfectly poached chicken eggs and 3 quail eggs! This is totally a great twist to the conventional egg Benedict ! 

 

Lobster roll - this comes cold, so if cold breakfast is not your thing, skip it. 

Dinner: 

My first visit was with Dr farm boy, my best friend who told me about male and female pigs ( read my post on the Lane vineyard ) 

 

Tapas of eggs

Eggs three ways - A twist on eggs benedict; Mushroom duxelle served with quail eggs; Hazelnut and sesame panko crumbed egg

This egg dish is special, yes. I've never had anything like this before, but I don't think it's something that I would order again the next time I return. 

 

The black plate on the right, Twelve Hour Slow Cooked Pork Belly

A tender twelve hour slow cooked pork belly with crispy skin served with smoky mashed potato and pickled red onion

Very very very good ! The pork belly didn't have any pork smell (if you read my post on the Lane vineyard which I instructed you to earlier,  you would know that Australian pork gets me. ) if you haven't read it yet, you're probably lost as hell now so I highly suggest you to READ IT! :) 

And the mashed potato is too die for. Holy shit. 

The crispy pork skin reminds me of the crispy pork skin snack from Thailand and Malaysia which I used to eat so much as a child. 

The black plate on the left, Moroccan Duck Breast

Medjool stuffed duck breast coated in 5 spices and served with wok tossed seasonal vegetables

So, education time ! Medjool is a type of date. It's a fruit. 

This duck is one of the best I've ever had. If there's only one main you can order, I'd say... okay, I really can't say it, it's too hard to toss up between duck and pork ! 

The red bowl, hand cut truffle chips with garlic aioli. 

I don't eat chips because I think they are unhealthy and fat. It's true ! All the salt that goes into making good chips, this pushes your blood pressure up up up ! And then you fall into hypertensive category and then your cardiovascular risk increases. 

Anyway, but these chips are so good, I ate 10 pieces. 

The second time I visited, was just 3 days after my first visit, I just could not stop thinking of the food there ! 

 

On the red plate, we have Smoked Salmon 'Mojito Style'

Parmesan cheese tart shell filled with savoury Mojito filling topped with smoked salmon, lime gel and fresh mint

THIS DISH WAS MINDBLOWING. I loved it so much, not cheap though, $18 for 2 tart, lol. 

The black plate on the right, Seared Tuna with Squid Ink Brioche Bun

Diced seared tuna steak on our house made squid ink brioche bun, served with polenta chips, wok tossed seasonal vegetables and spicy aioli

For dessert we had Forest Berry Textures

I didn't take a picture because it cost $18 and the dish did not look like it was worth $18, I was in such a shock, I just... yeah. 

But it was nice. 

But $18 is still not justifiable. 

Definitely definitely pop by this place if you are around rundle mall. This place is still newish, so there isn't a huge crowd, there isn't a problem getting a table without reservation. The decor is really pretty too, they have portraits of random royals/nobelmen etc, which could be a good conversation topic  if you're as well read and knowledgeable as Dr Farm boy. 

Who is this dude on the wall ? 

 

I said it was Mozart with his hair down. 

Apparently, according to Dr Farmboy, it's King Louis XVI.
