ADELAIDE: Delicatessen kitchen and bar @ waymouth

I'm always looking forward to Friday nights because its date night ! ( also we have our japanese class on Friday evenings and Nick and I love attending japanese classes !)

Brought Nick out for dinner tonight, my treat today because I got A for my haematology rotation ! It's not a big deal, but life thru medical school is tough and boring we need to pick on small things in our lives to celebrate.

We tried out a relatively new restaurant tonight, it was an incidental finding last week when we were walking back from chinatown. I think I said " what language is delicatessen?"

:/

Yup all you English Ninjas, stop judging. I now know the meaning. It means fine food. And for you who didn't know previously what delicatessen meant , you're welcome :D

Delicatessen is the brainchild of chef Andy Thiele and Paul Grey. Chef Andy has worked in many Michelin star restaurants in Europr and has developed a passion for french and English cuisine.  Chef Paul has worked in trendy cafes around adelaide and he brings a love of local produce and a passion to create comfort food served in a relaxed atmosphere.

We had the truffle and Gruyere bread for starters ($8)

It was simply amazing. Good for 3 people to share! We had 3 pieces each and i was so afraid I would have any stomach left for dessert.

Another starter we Had was the pork and sage meatballs with blue cheese sauce. I was really excited to try this because I had some really amazing ones in Melbourne 2 years back.

It didn't disappoint. Loved the flavour.

We then had the steak tartare ($16). I think I talked about how I'm a steak tartare kind of girl I never ever say no to steak tartare. Actually got quite offended when the waiter asked me if I knew what it was hmmmmmm.

Well it was good - not amazing because there was too much bread for a small amount of tartare ):

Salad tonight was the roast pumpkin, soft cheese, witlof, orange, proscuitto, baby cos, vincotto

So yummy ! We are gonna try this out sometime this week at home!

we shared the 12 hour braise of salt bush lamb, bordelaise sauce, native greens, roquette and Parmesan salad ($27)

 for mains

I'm not usually a lamb eater but Nick lovessssss lamb and being a v thoughtful girlfriend, naturally I give in to his whims and fancy. I really got to give thumbs up to Adelaide's restaurants, they seriously make good lambs.
This lamb was so tender and the sauce was so yummy and that marrow.... Made a lame medical joke about me getting an unmatched allogeneic marrow transplant and Nick just went " no idea what you're talking about " ):

And the highlight of my dinner.
 Desserts

Nick's Apple tarte tatin with goat cheese ice cream ($13)
SO GOOD

but none can beat my....

Peanut butter parfait, salt caramel, praline and banana

Peanut butter anything can never go wrong, but this was exceptionally right.

I'm actually mildly allergic to peanuts and as im typing this im itching abit all over, but given another chance, I'll still choose this peanut butter dessert.

Our meal came up to $119 tonight, which I thought was really reasonable. And I really can't wait to be back to try the croquettes, pork and duck rilette, beef cheeks and roast pork belly !!!!!
