TOKYO: Matsukan Azabu post 2

I have previously posted about Matsukan Azabu. And I think I've raved about how its a sushi restaurant I have to visit everytime I'm in Tokyo. In fact, I think I've been there so often ( actually not very la, max 2-3x a year) until the kawaii chef also recognises me and my snorlax balanciaga. hahahaha.

You may read my previous post here

The purpose of this post is just to show you the variety of sushis you may get at this restaurant. As well as you make you hungrier than you already are hahahaha.

My kawaii chubby chef deserves 2 picture of him at work ! :D

 Kaki - sukidesu yo!

Ootoro also deserves 2 pictures !

NAGOYA: Salon de Mon Cher

I was recommended by some of the medical students at Nagoya University Hospital that since I love sweets so much, I have to get myself down to this place. I was told that the dojima roll (swiss roll) is the best !

I remember buying a hello kitty cake from one of their booth at a department store, and it was the best character cake I've ever had. You know how such character cakes work, they look nice but they don't taste good. But I don't know if its Japan or Mon Cher, THE CAKES ARE KAWAII AND OIISHIIIIII!!!!
Very very grand interior

As you can see, almost everybody there were ladies with other ladies, or ladies with husband. I was the only.. table for one. haha oh wells.

You know, I love desserts so much, I've been telling everybody that my dream guy is someone who loves sweets as much as me. But somehow all the guys I've met, known, been with, are all not fans of sweets.
Tsk, Nick is not too bad now. He's been trained by me for 6 years. At least tho he's not a fan of sweets, he doesn't restrict me from visiting these desserts places. And he always give in to me whenever I say I need desserts after a meal :D ( he's a keeper! )

Menu!

I opted for the dojima roll + gateaux set (1380yen)
Perfect for afternoon tea !

Some of the gateaux selections

Chose the strawberry shortcake because it's so pretty! Look at the crown! Just befitting for a princess like me ( hahahahahahaha. joking not joking )

SO SO SO GOOD. THIS IS THE BEST SWISSROLL I'VE EVER HAD. Strawberry shortcake was good but definitely overshadowed by the swissroll.

I AM DEFINITELY GONNA GO BACK WHEN IM BACK IN NAGOYA NEXT YEAR :D

TOKYO: Shinjuku Kappo Nakajima ( 1 Michelin Star )

So I've already said that I'm a brand/michelin chaser. So how could I ever pass on the chance to eat at  the cheapes/most affordable Michelin restaurant in Tokyo?! I WILL HUNT IT DOWN EVEN IF IT REQUIRES ME TO WALK HALF A DAY!
Well, I suppose their Michelin star was probably awarded for their dinner set, but hey, a michelin restaurant is still a Michelin restaurant :D

Located in Shinjuku, it's inconveniently located sorta underground one of a nondescript building. I had so much difficulty finding it because apple maps was just making me walk round and round and round. Well, thanks apple maps, because of the walking, I found out where Gyukatsu Motomura Shinjuku branch was located. Lol, not really a challenge since unless youre blind, you wouldn't miss that huge line extended out to the pavement.

After what was around a half an hour intense search, I FINALLY REACHED.
They open at 11.30am, so please reach 15minutes early or on time if you don't want to be waiting for long. I reached at 11.45am (BECAUSE I WAS LOST urgh) and there were about 10 people in front of me.

4 set lunches. 800 yean EACH, except for 1 that is 900yen.
Each set comes with your choice of how you want sardine to be cooked, rice and tsukemono (picked veg), miso soup and hot green tea. Quick tip, it seems like most foreigners do not know this (because can't read japanese, duh) but you're able to order the sardine as an ala carte as well.

I had to try ALL the 4 different ways of cooking the sardine. So I opted for 2 sets and 2 ala carte.
The couple beside me looked on surprised. The elderly service staff must have thought I was mad " 2 SETS?! "  They didn't think a small petite asian like me could stomach everything. But as my colleague once said " I thought she was gonna eat the whole restaurant down"

crumbed and fried

Simmered in soy sauce daishi

Sashimi tossed in sesame

egg in sizzling hot pot

Very very satisfied with this meal. My favourite is the simmered Sardine.
I've recommended this restaurant multiple times to all my friends and those who've tried it were all very impressed.
I definitely think this restaurant is first grade and a MUST GO!

Will come back for their dinner in a few months time when I'm in Tokyo :D

TOKYO: Matsukan Azabu

There are some restaurants whereby you just visit once or twice despite you visiting a place multiple times for reasons such as.. ?expensive ?have already eaten why go again ?can't get booking. However, I don't ever remember a time where I've never paid a visit to this restaurant whenever I'm in Tokyo.

Matsukan, is a small restaurant hidden in the alleyways of AzabuJuban. It's so hidden ( at least to me, but thats cause I'm a total direction noob. I'm the kind who turns google/apple map left right up down just to get my bearings lol ) if you asked me how to walk from azabujuban station to this restaurant, I would direct you to my trusty GPS :D

3 different prices for the set menu : 8000yen, 10000yen, 12000yen
Menu changes seasonally - this menu was eaten during Winter, will do another blogpost soon for their summer dishes and my favourite chubby chef (head disciple of boss)  who recognises me because of my snorlax plushie on my balenciaga :D However, there was once tho, HE GAVE ME THE WRONG BAG ( Once you enter the restaurant, the chefs will ask for your bag to keep them in the overhead compartment just behind them)

At the end of each set, the chef will always ask if you're full. Most of the time I'm super greedy and I ask for Uni or Toro hehe. After which, because I lack confidence conversing in Japanese , I'll rub my tummy animatedly to express Onaka ga Ippai ( I am full! )   :D

Huge scallops wrapped in seaweed

Uni and crab meat! This is heavenly

guy second from the right is the owner. very very cute owner :D

This was my extra dish ( Toro!)

If cost in an issue, you can check them out during lunch as well ! Lunch price is much cheaper than dinner.
