I was on call over the weekend and guess what? I WAS CALLED BACK INTO HOSPITAL TO WORK BOTH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY because doctors call in sick all the time.
Sometimes I really feel perhaps I should start calling in sick too, but I always feel super bad because if I called in sick, means someone else on call would have to cover me. And it really sucks to have to cover someone on the weekend.
My personal feeling is that unless you're on your deathbed, ONE SHOULD NEVER CALL IN SICK OVER THE WEEKEND.
I'm on call again this weekend, and I bet you 99% I'm gonna get called back into work.
This was supposed to be a food blog, but Nick has urged me to blog abit of our travel itinerary especially at places where research may be a little bit difficult.
We took 1 day off our ski schedule to visit the snow monkey park ( Jigokudani)
Nick and his parents initially wanted to join a tour group, however, I managed to convince them to let me plan out everything. I mean, sure, the tour group may make things more convenient, but I really like my freedom and free and easy planning.
If you google, you may realise that it's actually really difficult finding access to jigokudani from nozawa, I remember spending a long time trying to piece bits and pieces of information. So today, I'm going to try and make it easy for you who may be in my shoes last year.
There is a bus stop just outside Nozawa Grand Hotel that takes you to the snow monkey resor
Time table here -- > http://www.go-nagano.net/tripinfo/bus-timetables/northen
We were the only passengers on the bus.. I think most tourists must have joined a tour - I mean after all, several websites online did say " It is very difficult to access the snow monkey resort by public transport "
I super beg to differ by the way!
I really do not know why people say it's difficult to access snow monkey resort by public transport, my feeling is that perhaps they're lucky enough to have very smooth sailing lives...
The whole bus trip lasts 1hour 5mins.
And then there's a LONG track from the bus station to the entrance of the snow monkey resort before you actually reach the onsen where the snow monkey soak themselves in.
They really make you work hard to see them, hey!
So we decided to have some ramen at Enza cafe before our long trek.
This chicken based ramen was so good! I didn't realise until while writing this post that the chef here used to be a ramen chef of a michelin restaurant! No wonder!
At the start of our trek
Almost reaching the onsen!
FINALLY!
You can't miraculously teleport back to the base. I think we took 1hour hiking here, which means... IT'S GONNA BE ANOTHER 1 HOUR HIKING DOWN! :o
Thankfully I have a very creative boyfriend who always tries to make things fun for me.
We starting making snowballs on the way down
Nick is a natural at making snowballs. Every tourist was so impressed at the size of his " egg"
putting our snowballs to good use
I decided to make us a reservation at kamukura snow dome village. I thought it would be really cool! And really out of the ordinary.
I heard it was really popular with locals, AND I wanted to do things that locals would do!
Our snow dome
Yup, the whole point was to have dinner ( nabe) in the snowdome.
Good lord, it was a good experience, but NEVER AGAIN. I was SO COLD, and the volunteer bus only came 1 hour after our dome lights went out ( meaning, it was dining time up for us )
All the other locals happily drove away in their cars.. leaving us... and 2 hongkong travellers.. waiting.. in .. the.. cold.. at.. the.. bus.. stop........
