Prior to coming to Australia, I never knew brunch existed. I'm from a pretty traditional asian country - I wake up to a breakfast spread usually consisting of bread, eggs, soy milk and a few hours later I have a proper lunch.
After 7 years in Australia, I'm starting to feel like I can't live without brunch. Even when I'm back in Singapore, I crave brunch so much I drag my parents out of the house to have brunch with me. Similarly, during their recent trips to Adelaide, I've been taking my parents to various brunch places and my mom is sold. She goes back to Singapore and she starts telling all her friends how wonderful brunches are.
There's just a handful of brunch places I repeatedly go to and recently I've been trying to find new places and experiences. Few weeks ago I stumbled upon this place called fine and fettle. wanted to have their breakfast menu but they stop selling them at 11.30am. So i had to opt for their lunch menu instead. I had this delicious beef soba salad and I told myself I have to wake up early for their breakfast one day!
Blue swimmer crab scrambled eggs
Corn and manchego fritters with an extra side of cured ocean trout
Tonkatsu pork hock brioche
Have you ever.. had so much hope and anticipation for something.. but when you finally got your hands on it, it was nothing as you expected. This was my exact feelings. My previous soba salad experience was so good, I had high hopes for breakfast.
The blue swimmer crab scrambled eggs was so tasteless.
The fritters was pretty tasteless as well.
Only the tonkatsu pork hock wasn't too bad. At least it was salty enough.
I would go back for the lunch menu, but breakfast? no thank you.
