ADELAIDE: Ramen and Izakaya Himeiji

When it comes to eating sushi in Adelaide, my to go person is ALWAYS Chef Shozo Ikeda. He owns 2 restaurants in Adelaide, both in Chinatown, called Genki sushi bar and Ramen and Izakaya Himeiji.
Himeiji is more of an upmarket place with very nice deco, while genki is your sushi conveyer belt casual restaurant.

I feel the most comfortable whenever Chef prepares my food. He's like the Japanese father I've never had. He always makes sure I eat the best. He knows my favourite are Uni and Toro, so everytime there's fresh and good uni and toro, he always asks me to order.
And the manager, Jason Shih, he is the BEST person. He's like this older brother I've never had. He is always taking care of me.

Anyway, Chef Ikeda makes the most authentic sushi in Adelaide, hands down.

TORO!!!

 KING SALMON!
so much better than regular salmon.

SUSHI BOAT - FUNAMORI!

This is the best grilled squid ever. A little expensive, but so good.

MAYURA STATION BEEF

IS THE BEST BEEF.

Maze-soba!
Did I say Himeiji also serves up mean ramen ? I especially like their chicken base ramen.

I've so many posts on instagram on both genki sushi and himeiji. Words and pictures are just impossible to describe my feelings towards this place. I'm so grateful that we have these 2 Japanese restaurants in Adelaide. I remember prior to them opening, I used to eat Sushi Train. Which, thinking back now, I feel a little ashamed that I could eat such sushi. Anyway,  definitely my favourite Japanese restaurants in Adelaide.

ADELAIDE: Ginza Miyako

Both Fatty and I really love Japanese food. Given that both Fatty and I are not working today and how I enjoyed myself previously at this restaurant, I decided to take Fatty here to celebrate our 6 years and 5 months!

We decided on the traditional kaiseki course.
Kaiseki is essentially a traditional multi course dinner and the terms refers to the collection of skills and techniques which allows the preparation of this meal.

First up,
Left to right: oysters, duck, sashimi, ?kangaroo

Next up,

Tempura ! Loved the red pepper tempura

Third course,

Main course

SUKIYAKI!!!

Was having a conversation with fatty about how I think I prefer sukiyaki to Shabu Shabu.
Minor disappointment here because 1) They didn't give me raw egg to dip my wagyu, instead it was a 63deg egg buried underneath my beef
2) MY EGG BURST.

And one thing which really bothers me when I eat egg is when my egg yolk burst. In fact, if my egg yolk burst while I'm cooking, I discard the whole egg. This is how much I dislike having an imperfect egg.

Barely touched by rice because I was so full by the end of this course

Dessert

Matcha Tiramisu with sesame ice cream. Meh, I make better tiramisu lol.

Well, I definitely can't compare kaiseki here to the ones in Japan. That would be like comparing a pariah dog to a pure breed champ :/ But it was still an enjoyable meal, and I thought it was pretty worth the money since I

1)  utilise the discount from the Adelaide Entertainment Booklet.  25% off total bill up to max of $40
2) Booked with Dimmi.com.au and got 2 complimentary Sake shots

Bill was $138 up from $178 (original price per pax for keiseki $79, Cocktail $13, Tea $7)
