KUROKAWA Onsen 黒川温泉: A guide to onsen hopping and food part 4 - IKOI Ryokan

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR TO EVERYBODY!

I've taken a short break off this blog because of reasons that I deem to be very reasonable

1) We were having a ball of a time skiing
And you know how it is with skiing, you see from morning to evening with night skiing some days. After skiing you just have dinner and soak onsen and then you retreat back to your room and you recover for the next day of muscle building, adrenaline pumping.

2) It's CNY! I have been busy with.... eating haha.

But I do find this break in blogging detrimental. It upsets my whole momemtum and now I actually can't remember what I've previously blogged about Kurokawa and I have to read the the last 3 blogposts

This post will be solely dedicated to the amazing Ryokan we stayed in - Ikoi

Ikoi ryokan provided us with a lovely dinner and breakfast, it's very conveniently located near the main shopping district, there is a pick up and drop off service at the bus stop. I essentially have NOTHING to complain about them! bonus: they speak really good english too.

And like most onsens, they have onsen tamago - 50yen for one.

 Dinner

All dressed in our yukatas and ready for our ryokan dinner. We were contacted a few days prior asking if we were comfortable having horse meat sashimi. To be honest, I'm not really game for it but Nick says that horse meat is really popular around this region and it'll be a waste to not have it here. And being extremely easily swayed.... I agreed.

Menu for the night - no english translation unfortunately

The first thing that made my night -- FREE FLOW ODEN
I am a super fan of oden.

First course - an array of small dishes with horse sashimi at the far right on the sashimi plate beside the salmon

Okay. I think this will be my first and last time eating horse meat. Idk man, it just gives me the creeps, Firstly, the meat looks really red, it's like.. human meat.
Secondly, I chewed for AGES and I still couldn't swallow it........
Thirdly, it tasted really gamey.

Steak

Loved this fried river fish!

Creme brulee and house made vanilla ice cream for dessert

Traditional red bean for dessert number 2

Breakfast

Very sumptuous and nutritious. A little bit too much for me for breakfast given that I'm usually just a yoghurt or a milo bar for breakfast. But nonetheless, very yummy and energy providing haha.
