SHIMIZU

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!

How did you spend your New Year Eve?

I'm FINALLY ( as some would say) back in the +65. Some has been asking " how do you feel leaving the +61 " hmmmmm. yeah, no feelings apart from being thankful that my +65 internet is so much faster ! I can finally breath life back into this blog.

As some would already know, Nick and myself have decided to take a break from being a doctor to travel a bit. And we will be leaving for Japan this Friday! Super exciting times ahead! Except that, I still have SO MUCH backlogs of posts from previous travel :o

Alright, my new year resolution shall be to keep on top of my posts.

Today I'll be introducing Shimizu. It's a port in Japan and if you ever have the opportunity to take a cruise around Japan, this will definitely be a port of call.

Shimizu port is considered one of Japan's 3 most beautiful ports. You can see the sight of Mount Fuji soaring above the surrounding area, hence it's not only scenic, it's also culturally significant.  It was pretty cloudy the day we went, but try to see if you can can spot 2/3 of Mount Fuji near the clouds :p

Do you know that Shimizu has the number one haul for.... TUNA?!
Other local delights include sakura shrimp and young sardines called shirasu

Oh how I love markets!

If you were to search up shimizu, there is little ( there is actually none I could find but I won't say none, I'll just say none, because I've learnt in medicine but more so in life lessons to always be grey and never say something absolute because nothing is ever 100% ) restaurant recommendations, so I just went with the restaurant that looks aesthetically the most pleasing/welcoming.

See, aesthetics is really important !

We decided to order the most expensive Tuna set that comprises of maguro, chutoro, otoro 2680yen

Ala carte some fried sakura ebi kakiage 500yen - It's SO GOOD. If there's something you need to order, IT IS THIS.

And also ala carte some sakura ebi shrimp 500yen ( left) and shirasu 450yen ( right )

What else is there to do beside eating you would ask?

There's a.....  instagram area dedicated to ramune drink?

There's a Ferris Wheel which you may be interested to ride?

There's sushi museum if you were interested to learn about the history of sushi?

There's not much to do in Shimizu, but definitely enough for 1 day of port of call :D

Enjoy !
