HIROSHIMA: Bakudanya ばくだん屋

If you don't already know, Nicholas is a SUPER ramen fan. So much so that every week when I'm not working ( so I'm currently on a week on, week off schedule. During my week on of 7 days, I work from 8am - 9pm, and then I get 7 days off ), he requests for Ramen.
So I rotate amongst, Tonkatsu, Shio, Shoyu, Miso, Chicken. And I make my own soy egg.

Anyway, dinner menu tonight is also Ramen! This time is more special, we will be cooking using Ichiran's premix. But as usual, I'm making my own chashu and soy egg.

So I've been watching this korean variety show called Lan life. Essentially it's showing how 4 creators/live streamers go about doing their livestream and how they create materials for their live show. And I realised.. dude..... 12 years ago when I was still blogging on www.--kisses.blogspot.com, I used to have the same enthusiasm as them. I would bring my digi cam to school and snap materials for my daily blog posts, then go onto msn messenger and chat/flirt with them chinese high boys la and hahaha goodness, I think some of them were sacrificed into being materials for my blog too oops. SORRY!

ahh man, I just tried visiting --kisses.blogspot.com, and it doesn't exist anymore ): how come ah? isn't web material forever?

So back to my initial train of thoughts.. I now get less than 10% of views per day compared to last time, which.. is really bad isn't it haha.

I WILL WORK HARDER ! I SHALL TRY MY BEST TO REGAIN MY FORMER GLORY!

So whilst we are on the topic of ramen.... The four famous types of ramen ( in no order of popularity....)  are 1) tonkatsu 2) shio 3) shoyu 4) Miso. You can read more about ramen here !
However recently, other noodle dishes seem to be gaining popularity as well, one of which is...

TSUKEMEN !

What exactly is tsukemen? I'm gonna explain it to you very simply. It is ramen noodle, which you can dip into either a hot broth or cold broth. Something like soba dipping, but with ramen.
My personal favourite tsukemen place is Afuri's yuzu tsukemen.

An in depth google search about where to eat in hiroshima, what to eat in hiroshima brings me to the introduction of today's restaurant -- Bakudanya.

Bakudanya is a restaurant selling authentic hiroshima style spicy tsukemen. The noodles here are handpulled and made fresh everyday, and they are served cold. Smart move, I mean if the broth is spicy and you serve the noodles hot as well... wah, trying to cause a human body explosion ah!?

I'm actually TERRIBLE at eating spicy food, so what's good about this shop is that you can choose your spicy level 0-20.

0: are you a loser?
1: for people who can handle a little bit of spice
2: come on, is that all you got?
3-5: intermediate spice eater
6-10:  I like to push my boundaries
11-15: got a girl I need to impress
16-20: I love the next morning anus burn feeling

I ordered a level 5, while Nick ordered a level 10. You see, this is the problem with being together for so many years, He clearly didn't see the need to up it 1 more notch to impress me.
We also ordered a side dish of karage chicken because WE LOVE FRIED CHICKEN :D

Nick's level 10 dipping sauce sauce.....

In comparison to my level 3 dipping sauce in the picture below.

I didn't survive even level 5 too well... It was SO SPICY! But at the same time, it was SO delicious!
I would definitely come back for another bowl of this, but maybe less ambitious this time.. probably go a level 3........
