I find social media to be such a powerful thing. They can really make or break someone. I actually feel scared for kids these days. I was bullied when i was 13 years old for about 3 months. Back then we didn't have instagram or facebook or twitter. It was just good old blogspot. They left mean comments on my "tagboard". They called me a pig, they called me ugly, they called me pignose/pigface. The bullies would look at me in school and whisper amongst themselves and laugh.
I think that time was when my self esteem plummeted down to ground zero, I was the girl who would stay in class during break time because I was scared to go out to the canteen and meet others. I was the girl who would purposely wake up late so that I could be dropped off at school on time or slightly late just because I wanted to minimise interaction with others.
That 3 months was really the darkest moments in my life.
I'm totally fine talking about it because I've gotten over it, the matter has resolved, I've learnt how to stand up against bullies, I've emerged stronger than ever. And I suppose because I had that dark period in my life ( although later I also went on to become a bully myself, because I was childish and stupid, I'm not a bully anymore now I don't think), I now always try my best to make " new " people feel welcomed.
So the reason why I'm sharing this sad 3 months of my life is because occasionally I random stalk people on instagram and youtube and I read the comments, and some of them are really really mean! And with the prevalence and accessibility of social media, it's just to easy to post the same mean comments on different platforms, share mean images and etc.
I think I totally went off the track, oops. What I wanted to say was that because of the accessibility and convenience of social media these days and also people these days are obsessed about aesthetics and gaining followers on various social media platforms, an establishment just has to make sure that their shop space, products are instagrammable and they are basically set.
Just a week ago, I saw this advert pop up on facebook, it was a dessert place advertising about their new pancakes and it looked SO PRETTY. Apparently, Barbara also saw the same advert and she also wanted to try it out.
I then went on to stalk the pictures that this dessert place had and I was like OKAY, I need to get this on my instagram as well.
So, on our off day, we asked a couple of our other colleagues who coincidentally were also on their off days ( nah actually we made them call in sick. haha joking ) and we decided to try this super instagrammable dessert place.
I remember going with Serena last year when they first opened, I remember we queued for a table in the cold, and my thoughts was wtf, not worth the hype. Too expensive and tastes ordinary.
I still think the desserts very expensive and definitely the taste does not justify the cost, but, hey. It's instagram age right now ! And because it's so pretty, Nick was like " ohmygod, can you bring me there"
So yes, looks like I'll be going back some time next week again.
One of my colleague, Roger, is a budding youtube star. Please support him!

The next week I brought Nicholas and became $31 poorer because of this thick shake. WTF.
I really think this place is for overly privilege kids. I probably will never go back again because it's really not worth it at all
