Tsukiji Fish Market
The world's largest and busiest fish market is no stranger to jet lagged tourists who are looking for a predawn fill. There are so many sushi bars and small shops, you'll be spoilt for choices.
There's Sushi Dai, which opens from 5am - 2pm. We haven't got the opportunity to eat here yet despite our yearly visits to Tokyo. A reliable source told me how they started queueing at 4am and only got into the shop at 10am. However, the sushi is really fresh and price is very reasonable.
Our top recommendations would be
1) beef rice bowl
2) pork ramen
A very generous serving of yummy pork slices for only ¥780 ?!?! WHERE TO FIND ?!
3) Uni Bun
More of a snack then breakfast per se, you've really got to walk the whole of fish market to find this. It's at the corner of a small lane. If you see it, you'll see it. If you don't, they're probably sold out for the day.
4) Buy some fresh produce from the market and DIY
Azabu Juban
We stayed in the beautiful district of Azabu Juban, where there is a perfect mix of quaint shops, trendy cafes and upscale restaurants. we were spoilt for choices when it came to breakfast.
1) Oden at Fukushimaya
Oden is one of Japan's favourite winter warmers and This azabu Juban shop has been in business for over 90 years !
2) taiyaki
Azabu Juban is home to the first ever taiyaki shop Naniwaya. It opened in 1909 and they're still making taiyaki using iron cast moulds. There's a long queue for this everyday, we were lucky that the two times we went we only had to wait about 15minutes
Address 1-8-14 Azabu Juban
Do leave us a comment if you have other breakfast recommendations for Tokyo! :D
